Meet Emerald Skies

Miss Rachel Jones of Emerald Skies is the most gorgeous, 21 year old red headed girl I have ever met in my life.   So much so, I was a little scared to show her picture to my husband - who has a thing for reds :-)

Emerald Skies began  in November last year - not the first blog for Miss Rachel, however Rachel decided she wanted to start a fresh - we all love fresh starts.

Meet Rachel

I'm Rachel Mary Alice Jones; a 21 year old beauty addict self proclaimed nerd from Liverpool, UK.I'm currently a Project Officer at Dyslexia Foundation, a job which a I adore! However all views on my blog are of course my own :-) I'm a cosmetics and skincare fanatic and I absolutely love sharing my views with the hope of helping other people to make a decision about buying certain products, and always giving my honest opinion! if you drink a lot of tea then we'll get on just fine. My blog mainly centres around beauty and lifestyle, but i also enjoy post-hardcore music, fantasy literature, video games (tweet me for my ps3, 3ds, and wii friend codes/PSN ID!!) and the odd football match!
My hair changes colour more often and the weather - I've been pink, purple, blonde, red, blue, auburn... you name it. So if you have ANY questions at all about haircare or safe colouring please get in touch - it's my "speciality" so to speak

Emerald Skies was a favourite daily read of mine before I had the honour of advertising fro her.

This blog is not only a fantastic read but it is elegant, sophisticated and chic.  I love the simplicity in Rachel's layout - love a black and white back ground as you will all know!

My favourite posts this month from Rachel have been :-

Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser Review - Read here

I was particularly drawn to this review because it is a product that I have lusted after for a while now.

I was also taken with her review of Loreal's '3 Day Wave' in their 'Elnett' range - being a fan of Elnett hairspray I was intrigued by this.  I was also drawn to the the title 'Surfs up'  - made me want to go on my holiday so badly.  You can read this review  here

Not only does Rachel have a lovely blog layout over at Emerald Skies but her photography and reviews are consistently brilliant.

If you would like to chat with Rachel (she is very friendly), or read more of her blog then here are her social media links - you will not be disappointed.

Hope you enjoyed this post - as always your feed back is appreciated.

Bloom Remedies - Eye makeup Remover

Bloom Remedies Naturally Organic - Eye makeup Remover, will be featuring in my monthly favourites this month, however, I feel that it deserves it's own moment in the spotlight.  Marie from Bloom Remedies very kindly sent me this product to try.

About
Bloom Remedies is an organic skincare company based in Cornwall that makes fresh skincare and bodycare products by hand.  We make these products in small batches, using the freshest and finest organic ingredients so that we can minimise the need for preservatives and stay true to our organic ethos.m Marie Hall, an IFPA registered aromatherapist who started her journey with Neals Yard Remedies.  With a diploma in Essential Oil Science and a background in formulating bespoke products for private clients, the idea for setting up a company that offers natural and organic skincare products began to form.  Marie knows first-hand that essential oils are therapeutic.  They encourage one to bloom, and so the name Bloom Remedies was born.

I must say that I am loving it.  An extremely gentle oil cleanser for the eyes, with rose essential oil that smells delicious.  This is alcohol free and it calmly, with no full, removes even the most stubborn eye makeup.  I really like the packaging - simple yet elegant.  A glass bottle with twist off lid and the gorgeous Bloom Remedies logo on the front.

Directions for use - Apply a small amount of product to a cotton wool pad and wipe.  If necessary use a dry pad to remove any residue left behind (if any).

For a long time now my staple eye makeup remover is the Clarins brand however this is even better at a fraction of the cost - I will definitely be purchasing this in the future.  If you have never tried this I think you should give it a shot. It is only £6.99.

I am really looking forward to trying more of the Bloom Remedies products.

New Look Summer Wish List

I'm not going to lie - I am no skinny lass, I am a curvy lass and as much as I have tried my whole life to be a skinny one I have come to realise that will never happen, it isn't in my bone structure.  I am a good sized 14-16 - fairly happy with that, my problem is toning up.

I am also quite tall - at 5ft 10, so sometimes buying clothes is challenging.   Take a dresses, for example, many of the lengths are tailored for the UK average girl height 5ft 8.  Which means many dress cuts just don't flatter my figure the waistline comes up to my boobs. Also why do they have to be so short - I am no prude but crickey.   Dresses my sister would wear - I would wear as tunics or tops.

Anyway, with summer creeping up on us I have been looking for some wardrobe inspiration.  I have put together my recent New Look wish list - which I will be buying to wear at a Blogger event coming shortly.   I love the variety of clothing New Look stocks and I find their website easy to navigate - It is very handy to have available when I can not always make it into town.  Exceptionally fast delivery means I save on petrol.

I am a huge fan of the leather biker jacket at the moment, It takes me back to my teens when it was a staple part of my wardrobe.  I have it in black at the moment but have been keeping my eye out for a really nice brown one that won't break the bank.    This particular jacket I have picked is a respectable £59.99.  Team this up with this stylish lace dress gives a perfect summer look - which can be dressed up or down.  My favourite thing about the lace dress is the dipped hem because when dresses are too short, I can't carry them off, the dipped hem is very flattering - £42.00.

I chose the wedge sandals because I am terrible in heals, 99% of the time I trip. These are perfect for giving me the height I desire but comfortably safe too - £49.99.

To round the outfit off I have picked these amazing Aztec jewellery pieces.  I was drawn to them because of the colours and I particularly like wearing statement pieces.  These each cost £6.99 - bargain.

Now all I have to decide is to match the makeup for it.

What do you think of my choices, perhaps you can give me some tips?

Would you Rather?

Thanks to Gemma over at Miss Makeup Magpie - I saw this tag on her page and thought why not.  This is my own image.

Would you rather lose all of your mascaras, eyeliners, lipsticks, and lip glosses or lose all of your palettes and eyeshadows?
I would rather lose all of the palettes, can’t go out without mascara or lipstick!  I can take or leave eyeshadow to be honest.

Would you rather chop off all your hair or never be able to cut it again?
Bit of a daft question – um, my hair never seems to grow past a certain length anyway so reckon I’d pick ‘never be able to cut it’

Would you rather have a coral cheek or a pink cheek?
I love Coral, adore it actually but I do prefer a rosey pink cheek

If you had £1000 to spend, Would you rather buy clothes or makeup?
MAKEUP

Would you rather apply lipstick as eyeliner, or eyeliner as lipstick?
What are these questions all about – I would apply lipstick as eyeliner.. I think.  Not sure the right answer here.

Would you rather only shop at MAC or Sephora?
We don’t have a MAC counter in Aberdeen and I’ve not been to the US yet.  I would probably say MAC ..

Would you rather only use one eyeshadow color or one lip color for the rest of your life?
Ah, good question.  I would choose one eyeshadow  because I love my lipstick and there are so many bright and beautiful shades I couldn’t give that up.

Would you rather wear winter clothes in summer or summer clothes in winter?
Pah!  In Scotland we only have a ‘Winter Wardrobe’but we call it an all-rounder.  What’s the difference!  We get a little sunshine – well we just take our jumper off for a while J

Would you rather dark nails or bright nails all year round?
Dark, I prefer rich warm shades for nails most of the time. But I am partial to go wild from time to time and add a bit of glitter!

Would you rather give up your favorite lip product or your favorite eye product?
I’d give up my favourite eye product over a lip product any day.

Would you rather only be able to wear your hair in a pony tail or a messy bun?
Easy – Messy Bun

Would your rather never being able to paint your nails again or never use lipgloss?
Never use lipgloss – I prefer lipsticks anway

Would you rather shave your eyebrows and have none at all? or sharpie them in everyday?
Sharpie them in – I’d look weird without any.

Would you rather live without makeup or nail polish?
Nail polish because you can always buy fakes!

 Tag you're it!

Monday Makeup Favourites

Today I felt in a casual mood when I woke - wanted to look like I had makeup on but at the same time I didn't want to look too made up.  This is the make up I chose.

Chanel Viatlumière Aqua Foundation - perfect foundation for a light to medium coverage, though very build able should you need more.

Soleil Tan De Chanel Bronze Universel - this beautiful creamy bronzer is a new edition to my makeup bag and I am really loving it for the perfect glow.  The texture is gorgeous - it reminds me of a chocolate mousse.

MAC Cream Colour Bases in Hush - this is the perfect highlighter for summer and I recommend everyone buys it.  This multi purpose cream base can be used on it's own or layered over foundation and/or powder for a natural looking sheen.

Urban Decay Naked Basics - this is a staple part of my daily routine, I love the neutral shades.

Cargo Cream Blush - Maul - this cream blush sits on the skin flawlessly and gives your cheeks a nice rosey glow - I wear this on the days I am not using a setting powder as cream sits better on a liquid base.

L'Oréal Paris Colour Riche Eye Pencil - Brown - great eye pencil which can be used to fill in your brows or as an eyeliner.

Lancôme Hypnôse Star - Noir Midnight - I adore this mascara and is one of my top 5.

What do you have on your face today?

By the way I forgot to take a photo of it but I am wearing Revlon Lip Butter in Candy Apple on my lips.

Cargo Contour Palette 01 - Malibu - Review

If you have been searching for the perfect contour palette then look no further than

Image of Cargo Contour Palette

Image of Cargo Contour Palette

This smashing little compact by Cargo has all your cheek needs in the one place - Highlight, Blush and Contour  - no more hunting around when you are in a rush, this is perfect for when you are on the go too.   As you can see from the photo above - I have had fair wear out of mine already - I normally hold off trying anything before photographing for the blog but I couldn't resist!

Each shade is really pigmented, and although these are powders there isn't much residue on application which you may find with other brands.  It comes with a great sized mirror too.

I picked this up at the Cargo event I attended, as soon as I saw it I new I needed this for my collection.  I have been searching for a contour palette for a long while now and I am extremely happy with the quality of this.

I got Contour 01 - Malibu  but it does come with a slightly darker shade of blush this one is called Monaco.

Monaco & Malibu

This palette is just perfect for the summer months.

Beauty Bay are currently selling these for £19.58 RRP £22.00, you can get yours here.

Ruby & RiRi Woo - Retro Matte Lipsticks by MAC

Ruby Woo and RiRi Woo Image

Ruby Woo and RiRi Woo Image

MAC Ruby Woo Retro Matte Lipstick

Ruby Woo is my absolute favorite Red Mac Lipstick.  I recently said in my '30 before 30' challenge post that I would like to find my 'signature scent and lipstick'.  I think Ruby Woo is a definitely a contender.  This is the second Ruby Woo I have owned, and I will continue to repurchase this as long as MAC keep making it.

Ruby Woo and RiRi Woo Image

Ruby Woo and RiRi Woo Image

Ruby Woo

Is a highly pigmented bright red color with blue tones.  It is very vivid and very matte - which I personally prefer - as would anyone else who prefers a matte lip.  It is a perfect 'standout in the crowd lipstick' .

Yes the packaging is a bit underwhelming compared to some MAC designs but because the product is that beautiful -  I am happy with the sturdy packaging - less chances of damage!

Ruby Woo and RiRi Woo Image
One of the The only real negative I have with the Retro Matte lipsticks is that they are a little dry on application, my lips need to be extremely moisturized before hand.  This is easily remedied - I use a lip scrub and a lip balm before hand if my lips are feeling a little dry.

RiRi Woo

RiRi Woo Retro Matte Lipstick- Yes I am one of those mad fans that snapped this little gem up when It was first launched - I actually paid a bit too much for it - I got it on EBay, I couldn't resist.  I kind of wish I had more patience but I had polished off a bottle of red wine, on the Saturday night, I claim diminished responsibility.

I was drawn to RiRi Woo because it was compared to Ruby Woo and in actual fact there aren't many differences between them.  RiRi is slightly brighter and a little pinker than Ruby but just as beautiful - with its cool blue undertones.  I think it is gorgeous.  Rihanna herself said that she modeled  the shade on Ruby Woo because it is a personal favorite.

Love her or loathe her you cannot argue that Rihanna has great taste in lipstick.

I have to admit though for a Limited Edition piece, the packaging  should have been fancier - a little bit prettier like the Nikki or Gaga lipsticks.  I do however like the RiRi embossed signature on the lipstick itself.

As far as I'm aware RiRi Woo is currently unavailable to buy from MAC however, they are due to launch the next phase of the Rihanna brand in June and RiRi Woo will be available to buy then again too.

However, if you are a Ruby Woo lover like me you can buy it from MAC here for £14.00

What is your favourite?  What do you make of Riri Woo?

Ps if you are wondering why I didn't post a picture of me wearing RiRi... well it's because i'm going to do a giveaway soon.  So keep your eyes peeled. xx
